跌倒對於老年族群而言是一個值得重視的臨床問題。老年族群跌倒的發生率遠高於年輕族群，除了肢體上的傷害，跌倒之後在生理、心理及社交生活上亦可能造成嚴重的後遺症。面對高齡化社會的來臨及國內要求建立老人無障礙生活環境的政策，發展跌倒偵測與傷害警報的工程技術，是具有極正面意義的。 傳統判斷跌倒的方式，是希望年長者身上配戴感測儀器，但這樣的方法，可能會造成年長者日常生活的不便，因此，本系統希望在免配帶感測儀器的前提下，透過攝影機拍攝，利用影像處理的方法進行跌倒比對。 本系統經過實驗測試，在正常情況下，誤判率小於2%。而當真正跌倒情形發生時，正確率可達八成。當跌倒意外發生時，系統判斷為跌倒，監控中心便顯示跌倒意外發生警告，並透過簡訊通知醫療人員到事發現場，提供後續照顧程序。
